A holiday in Majorca guarantee sun and fun, but what so do some exercise during your trip in Majorca? Don’t worry, it will be worth it.
Pollensa is one of the best places on the island to rent a villa in Majorca. Among the many advantages offered by the zone, one of the most attracitve is to visit the Hermitage of the Calvary. This Chapel and oratory, dating back to the 18th century, is located at the top of the mountain, which originally was owned by the Knights Templar.
To access it you must climb a stairway with 365 steps flanked by elongated cypresses; the number of steps is not casual because they symbolize every day of the year. Although it sounds very demanding physically, the ascension is not as hard as you would expect, the steps are very soft and during all rise, there are places to rest; There is also a parallel access which allows you to reach the top by car.
In the interior of the Chapel is a carving of Christ crucified. If you decide to travel to Majorca during Holy week you can see one of the most important traditions of the area, during these dates the statue of Christ is come off the cross and accompanied in procession to the Church of the Virgin of the Ángeles, which is situated at the foot of the stairs. This ritual is performed with great devotion, in silence, and only illuminated by the light of torches.
But this visit is not only recommended for the believers, in addition, from the top, you can see incredible views, that will leave you with the mouth open, and not just because you need to take a breath after the effort of the climb.
