Espardenyes or Majorcan espadrilles are on many people’s feet during the Mallorcan summer. You’ll recognize them by their straw soles and colourful canvas fabrics.
There are two traditional types: with or without laces. Their colours are very varied, although the basic white or black are the most common.
If you’re staying at one of our Sealand Villas during your holidays in Majorca, you can not only buy them, but also witness the manufacturing process in person. The only craftsman on the island that still hand-makes them is Pere Parets in Consell; devoted body and soul to the craft for more than 30 years, using a technique inherited from his ancestors.
Espadenyas are a type of comfortable shoe that combines perfectly with all kinds of clothes, but that is typically used for Ball de Bot (traditional Mallorcan dances). We can also see them in the Moors and Christians festivity in Pollença, among other festivals on the island.
