In the north of the island of Majorca, the Pollença Festival has been the soundtrack of its hot summer nights for over 50 years. Founded in 1962 by the renowned violinist Philip Newman, it is currently under the direction of the also renowned Majorcan composer Joan Valent.

The purpose with which the Festival was born, still valid five decades later, was making Pollença one of the Balearic Islands’ cultural axes, where different artistic expressions would interact through music.

The main criteria for designing the programme is to incorporate the participation of the world’s best musicians, regardless of their musical style.

Year after year, the public is able to enjoy a varied musical programme: prominent pop artists, jazz geniuses, classical music concerts... The Balearic Symphony Orchestra "City of Palma", the soprano Ainhoa Arteta, or the always amazing violinist Ara Malikian. These are among some of the great artists who have brought this Festival’s stage to life.

Every concert is held in the beautiful courtyard of the Sant Domingo Convent, located in the centre of town. Attending one of the concerts also means the chance to enjoy a stroll and dinner in one of the most beautiful villages on the island of Majorca.

Visiting Pollença in the summer months is also a great opportunity to discover some of the other events held, such as the Fiesta de la Patrona (Festivity of the Patron Saint), or the Alborada , the internationally known mock fight between the Moors and Christians, celebrated to commemorate the victory of the people of Pollença against the Arab invasion in 1550.
