Portocolom

Portocolom or Porto Colom is a village in the coast with fishing tradition, located in the southeast of Majorca, in the municipality of Felanitx. It is located 12 km from Cala d’Or, a real dream town to rent a villa in Majorca. One of the typical images and caracteristics of Portocolom are its light coloured houses, that keeps a certain similarity to the Italian village of Murano.

The village

Portocolom is much more than “Es Riuetó”, the colourful fishing style houses zone. Its old quarter of narrow streets is one of the best preserved ones of Majorca. It is also worth mentioning the Tower of Porto Colom, a defensive tower, built in the 16th century. In addition, Portocolom, has one of the most popular lighthouses of the island: the lighthouse of Portocolom, with its 25m in height and its characteristic dark blue and white stripes. It is an experience that you should not miss during your holidays in Majorca.

The beaches of Porto Colom

There is no doubt that one of the main reasons for travel to Majorca are its beaches, and this is one of the strengths of Portocolom. Here you can enjoy stunning beaches such as: “Cala Mitjana”, a beach of fine white sand, clear water and a postal environment; “Cala Estreta”, a long beach, that indeed, has a difficult access by land, for which it is usually accessed by boat. And probably the most popular, “Cala Marçal”, a protected and spacious beach of white sand, much appreciated by the families that decide to spend its holidays in Majorca.

If in addition to relax, lying on the beach or enjoying your villa in Majorca you need to stay active, this place is the ideal one for you. It is perfect to practice all kinds of water sports, especially sailing. Also, for the lovers of the golf, there is Vall d’Or Golf, a field in which you will be able to improve your game while you take delight with a few impressive views of the coast.

And as final recommendation: a visit that yes or yes we should realize during our holidays in Majorca, is the ascension to the Sanctum of Sant Salvador. The rise can be realized either by car or on foot, on a serpenteante  way, perfectly mixed with the nature. But the rise will be worth it, from the sanctum, along with the immense stone cross, we will enjoy one of the best views of Majorca.
