Description
The road leading to the village of Lluc is a heaven of peace and tranquillity in one of the most unspoilt areas of the island. And it is in this area, just 2.5km away from the old town of Pollensa, that Villa Frares stands proudly above the valley below. Villa Frares has its own soul, its own history, that is now shining again in all its glory after a careful refurbisment. Built in 1925 and belonging to the same family by then, this huge “finca” (traditional Mallorcan farmhouse) is now a comfortable independent holiday home with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, private pool and extensive outdoor areas providing privacy and seclusion in a truly authentic atmosphere. The history that made great this property can still be visible everywhere on the premises: precious handmade tissues of Pollensa decorate the internal walls, while old agricultural tools are still visible all around the surrounding gardens and fields (measuring the impressive size of more than 220.000 sqm).
Therefore renting Villa Frares for a holiday not only means staying close to sandy beaches (Puerto Pollensa or Cala San Vicente are less than 10 minutes away by car) and pretty towns, but also means renting a piece of the history that made great this island and its proud people.
Inside, the villa is set over 2 floors and has been carefully furnished to mantain the taste, style and traditions of the Mallorcan fincas. On the ground floor there is a comfortable lounge with TV, wi-fi internet access, sofas and armchairs together with a separate kitchen/dining area, an attractive double bedroom with antique furniture and a family bathroom with shower. Both the lounge and the kitchen have access to the outside, respectively to a covered porch (that houses a sort of “museum” of Mallorcan traditions) and to an outdoor shaded dining area with table, chairs, sink and barbecue. Upstairs there are 2 further bedrooms and an extra bathroom (en-suite). The master bedroom, with its comfortable bed, precious headboard with handmade tissues from Pollensa, walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room is a true oasis of peace. The other bedroom, once again finished to the highest standard and full of history, is a twin.
The outdoor areas of Villa Frares are definitely second to none. Guests will have at their disposal virtually unlimited space, stretching from the woods up on the hill down to the lane connecting Pollensa to Lluc. The private swimming pool, measuring 6.5m x 3.6m with depth of 1.5m, is equipped with comfortable sunbeds and parasols. It offers total privacy and unobstructed panoramic views over the valley beyond. There are plenty of opportunities for dining, relaxing, chilling out reading a book or suntanning: whether you choose to sit under the pergola, or under the shaded porch, you will be living the unique charme of the real Mallorca.

The villa was charming if old fashioned. Outside area is great with lots of space. Beds were very comfortable. The villa is very private and not overlooked. It is outside the town of Pollença but within easy reach and just walkable for an evening msee more

It is outside the town of Pollença but within easy reach and just walkable for an evening meal in the town. The location is very pretty with a view of the countryside and the mountains. Fresh figs and pomegranates and apples were there to be picked in the garden. The sound of the sheep bells is relaxing. The pool is a little small but spotless as was the villa itself. The cleaning staff do a great job.

You can't improve this, but it is true that the noise from the ma10 can spoil the experience. It is not constant but the road is fairly busy and the motorbikes in particular are annoying.
We had trouble working the oven and had to turn off the gas see more

We had trouble working the oven and had to turn off the gas at the safety switch in a cupboard to make sure that it was safe. I reported this but was advised to continue turning the safety switch off. I didn't feel that this was helpful advice. The downstairs double bedroom was musty and dark. The television was not set up properly but we didn't try to use it till the last night. So you didn't get a chance to fix this in fairness. The gas ran out and we had no hot water for a night and half a day. The service man came the following afternoon and changed the bottle. We could have done this ourselves and avoided cold showers after a long hike!! Perhaps this should be explained to tenants in the paperwork? |

Beautiful peaceful authentic finca set in fabulous orchards and close to all amenities. We loved the location and outdoor space with its different seating and eating areas. . Pool was lovely.

Hens and guinea fowl calling reminded us of home. It was a photographer's dream (family of photographers) with every nook and corner beautifully arranged with plants, pots and antiques. Delightful. Lovely hot water for showers. Aircon which heated the bedrooms on cold evenings. Yes we needed it! Despite our list of the improvements which are needed (all very simple things) we would definitely come back to this lovely house which felt more like a home than a rental villa. Please thank the owners for us. The lady kindly gave us a basket of eggs . |

There are no instructions on where to find things i.e. wifi code, washing machine instructions (very different to what we have in UK so not obvious how to use properly) rubbish disposal, local amenities, electric trip-switch ( we had a power failure during a storm which took a while to sort), nearest Doctor/hospital? Who to call in an emergency after office hours? This is all essential information for guests new to the country and
the property and not wishing to waste valuable holiday time sorting these issues. |
